A good position of your blog in search engines is essential for your success as a blogger. Google is the dominating one in search engine market at present. So it is very important to hold a good position of your blog in Google search result. The most important method to hold a good position in Google result is, forget about the search engine and concentrate on to create good, useful content in your blog. You can also use Google webmaster tool to register your blog and customize how it will look on Google search result. Google can display author picture with your site on their search result. This is called Google authorship.
Google is piloting the display of author information in search results to help users discover great content.
There are two methods to set up Google authorship for your blog. One is through email id of your domain and the other one is create a Google+ profile and connect with your blog. Here I am talking about the second method. Because I am using wordpress.com as my host so I am not having email id in my domain, so I have used the second method.
- Create a Google+ profile.
- Place a link of your Google+ profile to your blog.
<a href="https://plus.google.com/[your profile id]?rel=author">Google</a>
Do not forget the rel=author portion.
- Add your blog link to your Google+ profile (at the Contributor To section of your Google+ profile).
To test the setup you can go to Google structured data testing tool and give your blog address. If all goes well you can see your Google+ profile picture at the search result of this testing tool. To see your picture in actual Google search result you have wait until Google recrawl your site.
For more information you can take a look at the Google authorship section.
I’m amazed how you guys just skip what is vital and informative and write about what does not matter at all.
So, HOW DO WE PLACE A GODDAMN LINK ON OUR BLOGS THAT ARE HOSTED ON WP.COM?!?!
Thanks!

You can place your link at your blogroll. Please take a look at this link http://en.support.wordpress.com/blogroll/

Adding a link in the blogroll allows us only to add the “web address”, but for the authorship to work we need to add “rel=author” as well.
How to do that, please explain!

Thanks for a comprehensive post! How long does it take for the result to show on Google search? As per the testing tool, my authorship feature is working.

It takes 3/4 days as my experience. Let Google recrawl your site to show your authorship at their search result.

This procedure is still working now. You can read the original article on Google’s page https://support.google.com/webmasters/answer/1408986?hl=en&expand=2&hl=en. I can see your authorship is working nicely from ‘Google Structured Data Testing Tool’. It is showing your author picture with your article link at the Google’s search result page. Can you please check now?

stupidamigo – You can place your Google+ link with ‘rel=author’ at blogroll. Just add this to your ‘add new link’ section of your blog admin section. Hope it will work for you.

Hi Arnab, I did all you explain here (Google+ link in my blog and blog link in my Google+ profile), but the Testing Tool cannot verify the authorship. Perhaps it takes some time? My blog is http://sugoru.wordpress.com . Do you see if I made something wrong? Thanks!

I investigate your blog and I think you have missed the ‘rel=author’ portion at the end of your Google+ link. Please fix that. You can test your authorship at http://www.google.com/webmasters/tools/richsnippets. It will take more than a week to show at actual Google search page.

You’re right, I had added the ‘rel=author’ on the blogroll link, but I had forgotten the social link that appears at the bottom of my blog. Thanks!
